bulletSUMMARY INFORMATION:
bulletEmergency Services volunteers are needed for the San Francisco Chronicle Tour De Peninsula, a 33 mile bike ride in San Mateo County with 17 and 21 mile short-cuts and 5 rest stops with refreshments. We need 60+ Emergency Service personnel to work in areas of Communications, Strike Teams, Transportation, etc. Amateur Radio Operators are needed for Net Control, shadows for event personnel, field medical teams and sag wagons, bike mobiles, fixed posts, APRS, etc.

Run by
RhodyCo Productions  the ride starts at Sequoia High in Redwood City, winds through San Carlos, Belmont, San Mateo, Sawyer Camp Trail in the watershed, Millbrae, and back to Sequoia High via Hillsborough, San Mateo, Belmont, and San Carlos. This is quite a ride through urban centers and wilderness. This year's beneficiary is the San Mateo County Parks and Recreation Foundation.

This event offers an excellent opportunity for emergency service professionals and volunteers and groups to provide needed services to a beneficial event as well as utilize there skills in many facets of emergency/disaster response. Emergency Service agencies and volunteer organizations are encouraged to participate. The Emergency Services Unit (ESU) operates under the Standardized Emergency Management System (SEMS) and utilizes the Incident Command System (ICS). The ESU may work in close affiliation with local and state government agencies as needed. Some formal SEMS/ICS training may be provided as needed.

If you are a member public safety agency, emergency services volunteer group, or similar organization, then you have the skills we need. Members of Law Enforcement, Fire/Medical Service, Communications, Emergency Medical Services, and Amateur Radio make up the greatest number of volunteers. Areas of assignment include Command, Operations, Logistics, Safety and Security, Medical, Communications, Situation Status, administrative support and where required, Aircraft Operations. A brief description of the jobs is included below.

JOB DESCRIPTIONS AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
COMMAND
Works in the command post or other areas providing oversight, management and supervision of personnel in the field. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Training or actual in SEMS or ICS and normally a supervisor. Trainees welcome.
OPERATIONS
Responsible for fixing problems in the field as needed. This area includes Strike Teams and other personnel as needed.
LOGISTICS
Responsible for the support of the Emergency Service Unit. Provides personnel, Supply and Transpiration services. This is a critical function and a valuable skill for anyone to learn. If you think you are not qualified for this job, you are probably wrong. Training can be provided.
COMMUNICATIONS
Operates a mobile, portable or fixed communication facility as needed. Communications personnel may be on Amateur Radio, GMRS, business radio, Public Safety or other radios systems as needed. Communications personnel may be provide shadow and fixed post radio services and may operate any type of radio system as needed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Amateur Radio personnel must have at least a Technician Class license. GMRS requires a GMRS radio class license. Should be a member of a recognized ARES/RACES/ACS type of organization.
SAFETY AND SECURITY
Works in and around the event. Assists in the protection of the event equipment, items on display, event staff and the public.
MEDICAL
Provides first aid and assistance to members of the general public by operating a medical aid station and roving patrols as needed. May also be assigned to provide assistance to local agencies in case of a major emergency. Works as a member of a medical response team under the supervision of an experienced EMT or other medical paraprofessional. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Current certification by a recognized agency in First Aid and CPR. All EMT's and Paramedics must provide their own kit (replenished if used).
